The best times to post for restaurants (and how to find yours)

August 14, 2026 · 6 min read

Every guide gives you a chart of universal best times. Those charts are averages across every industry in every timezone, so they are a starting point at best. For restaurants there is a better rule: post ahead of the decision, not during it.

Post ahead of the decision

People decide where to eat 1 to 3 hours before they eat. A lunch video that goes up at 12:30 is competing with a decision that is already made. The same video at 10:30 lands while the table is still open.

Days matter more than people think

  • Sunday through Tuesday evenings are the cheapest attention of the week for restaurants, because fewer venues post then.
  • Thursday is the strongest day for anything about the weekend.
  • Friday and Saturday during service are the worst time to post promotional content. Your audience is already out.

Find your own windows in 10 minutes

Consistency beats precision. A restaurant posting four times a week at a merely decent time outperforms one posting twice a month at the perfect time.

  1. 1Open your TikTok or Instagram professional dashboard and find the follower activity chart.
  2. 2Note the two hourly peaks. Subtract 1 to 2 hours from each. Those are your posting windows.
  3. 3Post at those two windows for three weeks without changing anything else.
  4. 4Compare average views per post to your previous three weeks, not to your best post ever.

How many times a week should you post?

Three to five short videos a week is the range where most independent restaurants start seeing compounding reach. Below two, each post has to work on its own. Above five, quality usually drops unless you are shooting in batches.

This is exactly why batch filming matters: one 20 minute shoot can cover two weeks of posts if the clips are stored and reused.

Let the scheduling do the remembering

The times only work if the post actually goes out. Chef Social suggests three post times per video based on your schedule and platform habits, and drops approved videos straight into your calendar for TikTok, Instagram Reels and Facebook so nothing depends on you being free at 10:30 on a Tuesday.

The short version

Post 1 to 2 hours ahead of the meal decision, use midweek evenings for weekend plans, and schedule in batches so consistency does not depend on a free moment during service.
