Does my restaurant need TikTok?
October 28, 2026 · 5 min read
If you want new customers to find you, especially people under 40, yes, TikTok is worth it. You do not need to dance or make TikTok-only videos. The same short video of your food can go on TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Facebook. TikTok just gives that video one more place to be found.
Why restaurants do well on TikTok
- People search it like a map: "best tacos near me", "date night spot", "brunch in Irvine".
- It shows videos to people who do not follow you yet. A new account can still be seen.
- Food is one of the easiest things to make look good in 15 seconds.
What works for restaurants
- Close ups of your best dish: the pull, the pour, the crunch.
- One dish made from start to finish.
- Your chef or owner talking for 10 seconds about something real.
- Honest prices and deals on screen.
- Your real room and real guests, with permission.
What doesn't work
- Stock photos or footage from somewhere else. People can tell.
- Fake food or food made on a computer.
- Posting twice and giving up.
- Long talking videos with no food in the first few seconds.
When it is fine to skip TikTok
If most of your guests are regulars over 60, or you are booked every night and not looking to grow, Instagram and Google may be enough. But because the same video works everywhere, adding TikTok usually costs almost no extra time.
How much time it takes
If you film a month of videos in one block and schedule them ahead, posting to TikTok adds a few minutes a week. If software posts for you, it adds none. Chef Social is a video editor that posts every video to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube Shorts for restaurants anywhere.
Questions owners ask
Is TikTok or Instagram better for restaurants?
Use both. Instagram is where many regulars already follow you. TikTok is good at showing you to people who have never heard of you. The same video works on both.
Do I have to be on camera?
No. Many restaurant videos are just food, hands and the room. A face helps build trust, but it can be a cook or a server instead of the owner.
How long should a restaurant TikTok be?
Most good restaurant videos are 10 to 30 seconds. Show the food in the first second, then end before people get bored.
The short version
TikTok is worth it if you want new customers, and it does not need its own videos. Post the same short food videos you use on Instagram, keep it steady, and keep it real.
